Clinical evaluation of Lidamidine hydrochloride in patients with acute or chronic diarrhea




Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to assess the clinical therapeutic effectiveness and any possibility of untoward side reaction of Lidamidine hydrochlorides in the acute or chronic diarrhea in Korea.
Twenty-three cases of acute diarrhea and twenty two cases of chronic diarrhea were subjected to an open clinical trial at the out-patient clinic of Han Yang University Hospital. Generally, 4mg of Lidamidine hydrochloride were given as initial dose and additional 2mg of Lidamidine were given orally as maintenance dose.
The effectiveness was assessed by the subjective decision in 4 different arbitrary level, excellent, good, fair, not effective.
All cases were completely relieved after 3 days of treatment. The general effect of the drug for acute diarrhea was excellent in 21 cases (91.4%), good in 1(4.3%), fair in 1(4.3%).. The general effect of the drug for chronic diarrhea was excellent in 17 cases (77.3%), good in 4 (18.2%) fair in 1 (4.5%) Although dry mouth was experienced in 1 case this symptom was rapidly relived.
Otherwise no significant untoward side-effect of the drug was noted in this trial.
